AN INFINITE SEQUENCE OF TERMS CHARACTERIZED BY A FINITE AUTOMATON
Automatic set; Automatic real number; Period-doubling sequence; Cobham–Semenov theorem; K-automatic sequence; Cobham-Semenov theorem; Automatic sequences
In mathematics and theoretical computer science, an automatic sequence (also called a k-automatic sequence or a k-recognizable sequence when one wants to indicate that the base of the numerals used is k) is an infinite sequence of terms characterized by a finite automaton. The n-th term of an automatic sequence a(n) is a mapping of the final state reached in a finite automaton accepting the digits of the number n in some fixed base k.

  • Schematic of an AGC used in the analog telephone network; the feedback from output level to gain is effected via a [[Vactrol]] resistive opto-isolator.
AN ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST SIGNAL STRENGTH
Automatic Gain Control; Automatic Level Control L...; VOGAD; AGC circuit; Automatic volume control; Automatic voltage gain; Vogad; Automatic Voltage Gain; Auto gain control
Automatic gain control (AGC) is a closed-loop feedback regulating circuit in an amplifier or chain of amplifiers, the purpose of which is to maintain a suitable signal amplitude at its output, despite variation of the signal amplitude at the input. The average or peak output signal level is used to dynamically adjust the gain of the amplifiers, enabling the circuit to work satisfactorily with a greater range of input signal levels.

IBM SSEC

The IBM Selective Sequence Electronic Calculator (SSEC) was an electromechanical computer built by IBM. Its design was started in late 1944 and it operated from January 1948 to August 1952. It had many of the features of a stored-program computer, and was the first operational machine able to treat its instructions as data, but it was not fully electronic. Although the SSEC proved useful for several high-profile applications, it soon became obsolete. As the last large electromechanical computer ever built, its greatest success was the publicity it provided for IBM.
